I’ve always been one to believe that the three most fundamental things to understanding and embracing worldly culture is music, food and fashion. So it is by no surprise that all three of these art driven expressions help to bring tremendous balance to my life. A great understanding for each other and what makes each of us so uniquely but perfectly different is mostly driven by what our cultural influences are; which brings us back to the type of music we listen to. The type of cuisine that we consume and the type of fashions that inspires us. When I seek inspiration during my least inspiring moments, I turn to music. Especially when I’m in a creating mood, but struggle to come up with a vision for that final result.
One of my favorite artists is Santigold (formerly Santogold). While some may compare her to MIA or Res—she’s a breath of fresh air in many respects. Let it be known that she will not allow herself to be pigeonholed as an R&B artist simply by her physicals. Her sound is a wave of energy that meshes dancehall, electronica, punk and R&B. Surely my discovery of Santigold was nothing short of a gold rush made out of pure 24k gold. While the verdict is still out as to which of her two albums are my absolute favorite, I might just be leaning more towards her self titled album…Santigold. Rest assure that both albums will have you dancing like no one is watching, singing like no one is listening and will give you the burst of fun-filled energy that inspires us on a dreadful Monday morning.
