Hi Fashionably Fabulous Friends…..
This weekend I stepped out to attend a local fashion charity event. My fashion inspiration? Old Hollywood Glamour. There is something about vintage fashion that just screams sexy sophistication. Women like Dorothy Dandridge, Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn, Lola Falana, Pam Grier and others mastered the art of sophistication, elegance and femininity. As I get older and my style evolves, the struggle remains how do I maintain that perfect balance between classic and eclectic? Certainly there is a thing called age appropriateness, right? That golden fashion rule that says we should remain confined within societal boundaries of what a thirty something should dress and look like. While I do get that opting for classic, “grown-up” and structured pieces reflects a certain sentiment; I don’t get limiting one’s personal style to their age group in many regards. Take for instance the forty something with perfectly toned legs who can rock a fabulous pair of leather shorts styled perfectly. Or the seventy something who loves to play with color. Should she stick to muted neutral and pastel tones? Am I advocating that a fifty something rock a freakum dress? Absolutely not. What I am saying is rock what makes you feel great and works best for you within reason. At the end of the day, you are never too old to have fun with fashion. Take lessons from one of my favorite fashionistas, 92 year old Iris Apfel. I have so much love and admiration for this iconic lady. I mean, what 92 year old you know with so much swag?

“I think my taste has been polished and my eye improved but my basic tendencies are the same. Know yourself and know what you carry. If you’re not comfortable no matter how well dressed you are you’re not going to look right. I’d rather be happy and feel comfortable.”
