Whether you are self-taught or school-trained in the craft of sewing, these five amazing books will serve as a great resource for both novice and skilled sewist alike. When I jumped head first into sewing three years ago–it was just me, my Janome, YouTube and these books. My long list of sewing resources quickly grew just as did my hoarded stash of curated fabrics. I don’t know what I would do without these five books. Surely there are countless sewing books out there, but these five are my go-to. The old favorites. The quite necessary.
- The New Complete Guide to Sewing: Step-by-Step Techniques for Making Clothes and Home Accessories by Editors of Reader’s Digest – This was my very first book that got me started. It includes fundamentals such as pattern cutting, hemming, hand sewing and lots more.
- Professional Sewing Techniques for Designers by Sharon Czachor and Julie Cole – This is an amazing guide to understanding patterns and methodical techniques as it relates to the order in which each piece of a garment should be constructed; yielding the best results for the most professional and well constructed outcome.
- The Dressmaker’s Handbook of COUTURE Sewing Techniques by Lynda Maynard – This book is packed with lots of great techniques for garment fitting and shaping that delivers amazing results.
- Fabric Sewing Guide by Claire Shaeffer. This book is huge, detailed-oriented and filled with instructional guides on the different type of textiles and fibers, how to care for each and the best sewing techniques used when working with them.
- The Complete Photo Guide to Perfect Fitting by Sarah Veblen – Packed with helpful illustrations, the author does an amazing job on pattern fitting and making the necessary garment adjustments to tailor to your specific body type.
There you have it, my five favorite sewing books that I absolutely can not live without. Now I’ve got to find some time to dust these bad boys off and get back to sewing. Until next time…..Peace, Love & Blessings!Shop Sewing Books ——-> Here
