I love a great bottle of white wine. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about reds. My taste palate simply can’t tolerate reds. Well, at least I haven’t found the right one. I know there have been countless studies that stresses multiple benefits to drinking reds over any other type. But until my taste buds can agree with a fabulous choice of Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon, I’ll simply just have to stick to my usual. I pretty much enjoy many sweet or dry wines more with a preference for still over bubbly. Many of my Friday nights involve one of these bottles and my favorite show on Netflix (what a life right? LOL). Since the holiday season is upon us, I figured I’d share some of my favorite white wine choices with you.
- Bougrier ‘V’ Vouvray – Bottled by Jean Claude Bougrier at his Loire Estate, this Vouvray is medium-bodied. Bold flavors of cream and hazelnut (these flavors really work together) creates a mild sweetness that is balanced by the right amount of acidity. This French bottle is a must have in the cellar. Hands down. Pair it with some Bousin Garlic & Herb cheese and a fresh fruit medley and bon appétit. Region: France | Price: $ | Varietal: Vouvray
- Tesoro della Regina Pinot Grigio – I’m funny when it comes to pinots, but this is one smooth and sophisticated option. Infused with apples and peaches, this medium-bodied wine is sure to please Pinot Grigio lovers. I love the crispness of it. Pair it with some sushi, oysters or ceviche and you are set. Region: Italy | Price: $ | Varietal: Pinot Grigio/Pinot Gris
- Santiago Station Sauvignon Blanc – This is a great house wine. The bottle runs around $5, but don’t let the cheap wine price fool you. This brand runs with the best of them. A phenomenal bargin buy. This fresh and vibrant Sauvignon Blanc has classic pear, citrus and lime flavors with a clean and refreshing finish. Try using it as a base in any of your favorite seafood dishes. I love to pair it with mussels. Region: Chile | Price: $ | Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc
- Graham Beck Bliss Demi Sec – Semi-sweet and medium-bodied; this South African sparkly has a moderate hint of honey that is more on the dryer side. If you are looking for a good and reasonably priced bubbly from a far less popular region, then this is it. Region: South Africa | Price: $ | Varietal: Sparkling
- Cottesbrook Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc – This Marlborough, New Zealand choice is well balanced, has a crisp finish and is bursting with fruity flavors. It has a lovely aroma of gooseberry (native to Europe, Africa, Asia) and citrus. A great pairing choice for fish like snapper or sea bass. Region: New Zealand | Price: $ | Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc
- Chateau St Jean Chardonnay – This classic Sonoma County Chardonnay boasts
bright aromas of lemon, cream, mango and hints of hazelnut. I am typically not a huge fan of chardonnay, but this one is a great option to many and it comes from the Sonoma region in California. Region: California | Price: $ | Varietal: Chardonnay
Now that the holiday season is steadily approaching, I’m going to have to make a much needed trip to my local Total Wine to stock up on these favorites. Are you a lover of whites? What are some of your favorites? Can you recommend any great reds?
