Ilove to mix modern and traditional home décor pieces. Clean lines accented by bold colors with earthy and warm undertones. The goal? A space that is warm and inviting, bold yet balanced all while remaining true to my personal aesthetic. This essence of modern day style and décor. An interior design style that is modern, transitional and eclectic. To me, it’s about stepping outside of my comfort zone, experimenting and mixing different paints, fabrics and textures to create spaces with a warm, modern, yet a simplistic touch. All to which leads back to my personal fashion style. Here are 5 important qualities I consider when creating an interior space.
Warmth – I love a space that is warm and inviting. While many modern spaces can have a cold appearance, simply introducing warm color palettes, rich wood tones and textures and a simplistic furniture arrangement can turn any space from cold to warm.
Contrast – Mixing prints or contrasting color is the best way to bring contrast to a space. Too much contrast can become a distraction and can cause a space to become too busy. So be careful when introducing this design principle to a space.
Boldness – From bold wall color choices, mix in textures, to décor accents like rugs, mirrors, vases and botanicals—-my space isn’t right if there isn’t any touch of boldness. I typically go bold with wall paint or decor accents keeping everything else neutral toned to maintain warmth.
Symmetry – Symmetry speaks to the balance or even distribution of the visual elements within a room. Think of the roof as the head, the floor as the feet and the open space as the body when considering symmetry and balance.
Harmony -A common theme or style should be reflective in your design elements and choices. They should work together seamlessly to create a cohesive look. Picking a color scheme is a great way to achieve harmony within a space. For example, I’ve chosen the colors orange (of course), green and red to use throughout my home in various shades. It will tell the perfect story of cohesion.
